Hey Awesome ones,

We’ve all heard the word “self-care“.

Many times we’re so busy that we don’t even stop to think that this word might be shouting at us to pay attention!

Today I worked til 5:15 p.m. (it’s a Saturday). I just loaded a new You Tube video and I had the house to myself (Bill decided to take a rare self-care day and went out with a buddy to see a football game). So what did I do after I turned off the computer? I glanced out the window on a beautiful Summer’s day, took a moment of precious solitude and decided we had some weeds that needed to be pulled out. What!? What’s wrong with me!?

Well my guess is that I don’t plan or even acknowledge that I need to set aside time to pamper myself and treat myself to magical “me” time. Between work obligations and  being smack dab in the middle of a sandwich generation (I have a 93 year old mother in law who wants to live in her home and 4 twenty-somethings as kids) it’s a challenge sometimes to balance their lives with mine.  It seems I’ve been on the “busy” track so long I don’t remember how to relax.

After I pulled a few weeds, I stopped. I took my high pressured body and tired butt upstairs and ran a bath. I even put a lavender scented bubble product in the tub so I would stay and savor the precious moments. I had earned this and needed to re-group with my thoughts on the relaxation path.

I now know I need to schedule “me” time and my guess is that you probably need to as well. Whether it’s for a manicure, pedicure, massage or even just time set aside to watch an old fashioned romantic movie or journal in a beautiful new notebook, just plan something that will calm your soul.

Now if you think you don’t have the budget for some of the pampering pleasures take a look at the groceries you just bought. How much comfort or junk food was in there? What about that impulse buy of a new top or even that little extra you checked out from the liquor store? You may be craving self-care and finding other ways to satisfy it.

So the next time you are looking at your to-do list put “me-time” at the top.  I promise you it will be awesome.
